Specimen Type/Requirements

Plastic, sterile, screw-cap specimen container - Entire dried calculi (stone) specimen

  1. Clean any blood or foreign material from the stone with water.
  2. Stone should be air dried thoroughly at Room Temperature for approximately 24 hours. A dry stone should not stick to the walls of the plastic container.
  3. Important:  Do not tape specimen; Do not send stone in formalin, surgical gel, or any transport media; Avoid sending filters and cotton swabs (Q-tips)
  4. Additional processing is required for stones received with residual liquid or dampness, potentially causing delays in testing.

  6. Indicate source of specimen on outside of container.
