Specimen Type/Requirements
Lavender top (EDTA) tube - Whole blood or plasma
Gold top (Serum w/ gel) tube - Serum
Red top (Serum w/out gel) tube - Serum
Sterile specimen container for CSF, Amniotic fluid, random urine, Broncoalveolar lavage (BAL), send refrigerated or frozen.
OR
0.3 mL (0.25 mL minimum) Undiluted Raw Vitreous Eye fluid; Do not dilute collected specimen with additional saline or other transport media.
OR
3 mm Fresh (unfixed) tissue in a Sterile, plastic container, send refrigerated or frozen.
No other acceptable specimens.
Separate plasma/serum from cells within 2 hours of collection.
Indicate source on specimen and requisition.
Reject Criteria-Heparinized specimens, unspun PPT tube, paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissue.
Test is not affected by hemolysis or lipemia.
