Specimen Type/Requirements

Purple (EDTA) tube.

Deliver to the laboratory within 4 hours of collection. Out of town Regional Laboratories must prepare and send in buffy coat smears along with the specimen if transport will exceed the 4 hour time limit. Prepared smears must be properly labeled.

Preferred Volume 3.0 mL EDTA whole blood + unstained buffy coat smears
Minimum Volume 0.5 mL EDTA whole blood
