Specimen Type/Requirements

Draw/Collection kits available from Laboratory

MUST USE A 21 GAUGE NEEDLEOR LARGER AND 3- 2 mL GREINER PARTIAL FILL SODIUM CITRATE TUBE. THE GREINER TUBE MUST BE FILLED TO THE FILL LINE MARK. DO NOT OVERFILL OR UNDERFILL.

LINEDRAW: Request specimen draw kit from Laboratory
Clear the line before filling the Greiner tube by drawing and discarding 5 mL of blood. Transfer 2 mL of blood into each Greiner tube using a blood transfer device.

VENIPUNCTURE:
Collect a discard Greiner tube first, then fill the other two Greiner sodium citrate tubes. Label the first tube as “Discard”.

Gently invert the tubes at least 5 times.

Manually transport to the laboratory immediately. Tubes must not be sent using the pneumatic tube system.

Test must be run within 4 hours of collection.
