Blood Culture Collection Guide
For most yeast, routine blood cultures are sufficient. For cases of suspected filamentous fungus (i.e. Aspergillus, Histoplasma, Blastocystis, Coccidiodes), collect specimen in a 8.3 mL SPS (Sodium Polyanethol Sulfate) or a 4 mL Heparin tube (no gel). Obtain specimen aseptically.
