Light Green-Top (Lithium heparin w/gel) Tube – preferred
Gold-Top (SST Serum w/gel) Tube

Red-Top (Serum w/out gel) Tube

Instructions

PATIENT PREPARATION:

Do not cleanse the sample draw site with
alcohol or other volatile disinfectants.
Only use aqueous disinfectants.

 

Must keep tube tightly capped.

 

To minimize exposure to air, spin samples with cap on, transfer
to plastic tube within 3 hours of collection and cap
immediately.


Cells use up alcohol if left on clot/cells for any length of
time.

Specimen Volume

Preferred Volume 1 mL serum or plasma
Minimum Volume 0.5 ml serum or plasma

 

Stability/Transport

Room Temp 2 weeks* (poured in aliquot tube)  
Refrigerated 6 months* (poured in aliquot tube) Preferred for Transport
Frozen 6 months (poured in aliquot tube)  

*Specimen must be tightly capped
