Instructions

Collect Nasopharyngeal (NP) washing or aspirate.

 

To process for the performing lab submit 1 portion of the sample in a sterile, leak-proof container AND a second portion of the nasopharyngeal washing or aspirate sample should be placed in a 3.0 mL vial of universal transport media within 4 hours of collection.

Tests for: Adenovirus, Influenza A & B, Parainfluenza 1,2,3,4, RSV and Human Metapneumovirus (hMPV).

 

If only universal transport media is received- Virology can spin down the media and use the cells for the DFA method (NOT THE SAMPLE OF CHOICE).


If negative, a viral culture will be performed at additional fee.
