Instructions

Collect Nasopharyngeal (NP) washing or aspirate.

 

To process for the performing lab submit one portion of the sample in a sterile, leak-proof container AND a second portion of the nasopharyngeal washing or aspirate sample in a 3.0 ml vial of universal transport media within 4 hours of collection.

 

Indicate Source.

 

If only universal transport media is received- Virology can spin down the media and use the cells for the DFA method (NOT THE SAMPLE OF CHOICE).

 

If negative, a viral culture will be performed at additional fee.

 

Tests for: Adenovirus, Influenza A and B, Parainfluenaz 1,2,3 and 4 and RSV
